On May 21, 2017 a heritage walk was held at the Panchakki. The purpose of this event is to inform, make known and give desire to the people living in Aurangabad to save their heritage.
This event was organized by the Aurangabad History Society (facebook here). She invited two renowned historians, who are living in old memories of city and its rich heritage, Mrs. Dulhari and Mr. Rehman Qureshi. For two hours, they gave us details about the history of Panchakki.
Among these, it was learnt that Panchakki had one of the largest collections of books. At its peak, the library had 100,000 books. All these books were moved to Hyderabad during the reign of the Nizams of Hyderabad. Today there are only few copies of this period, including a Quran written by Aurangzeb.
The most important work to be done now is to be preserving the one of the first air conditioned guest house in the world which was founded in 12th century.
This event attracted more than 70 people of all ages and who are very much interested to take initiatives to improve this city and also, who are keen to learn history about Aurangabad.
More heritage walks of the same kind will be organized at other historical sites soon.
